Learn How Computer Cables Exporters Sleeve Cables

Cable management is a fundamental job to do for all manufacturers and computer cables exporters. For this job, experts complete the tedious process of sleeving cables for enhanced aesthetics. Cable management and sleeving enhance the existing air flow of the computer system and decrease system temperatures in poorly cooled systems. Regardless of the reason, sleeving is trending in the PC modding market and in this post; you will learn how experts perform sleeving for cables.

Kindly note -this article is about the sleeving of a spliced cable with two wires. You can follow the steps shared here.

Things Required-

  • PC cables you want to sleeve
  • Sleeving tools
  • Wire stripper and cutter
  • Heat gun or lighter
  • Scissors
  • Heat shrink tubing
  • Pliers
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Cable sleeving
  • Nylon wire ties
  • Plastic coated or paper coated wire twists (optional)

Steps To Do Sleeving

1. Determine your approach - You need to decide whether you want to sleeve a cable by splicing it, removing pins from connectors, or in place of the existing connectors. Removing pins from connectors is the tidy approach and splicing is also a great option if you plan to change the cable length at the same time.
2.  Measure the size of sleeving - You need to consider factors while measuring sleeving size -
    a.    Wire size
    b.    Connectors size
    c.    Appearance
    d.    Fray resistant sleeve
3. Cut the sleeve to length - You should know that when sleeving expands around cables, its length shortens. So, taking this thing into consideration, you need to match the length of the sleeving while on the cable itself. Leave approx 3mm to 12mm of cable exposed at each end as it will help the heat shrink tubing to grip the cable and sleeving.
4. Singe the ends- if you want to avoid fraying and unweaving issue, use lighter or other heat source to singe the ends. Be careful while using lighter because excess of heat can cause discoloration of the sleeving.
5.  Install sleeving - Place the cut sleeving on the cable and push it up the cable -
    a.    Squeeze down to hold the sleeving side in place with your one hand
    b.    Push the sleeving together with other hand
    c.    Release the grip of your first hand
    d.    Repeat these steps to complete the sleeving installation
6. Cut heat-shrink tubing - You need two pieces of 3-12mm length to cover the sleeving ends. Tubing you select should be large enough in diameter to clear the sleeving.
7.    Pull back sleeving
8. Attach wires if it is about sleeving the spliced cable- prepare cable ends, connect the wires, and secure and insulate connections.
9.   Release sleeving
10. Expand the sleeving
11. Shrink the tubing
